NO he is not a good character, he's the fucking villain. obviously he's supposed to be sympathetic to an extent, otherwise they would not have humanized him, but that doesn't mean you should defend him to the death. a sympathetic character is not always a morally just or virtuous character, and clark is a PERFECT example of how a character can be sympathetic and just a total dickhead. i mean we watch him kidnap Mary, we know for a fact he cannibalized Kat, and its obvious that he verbally abused his wife, and it's very much implied that he physically abused her too! i mean the scene where Captain Clark comes out and Barbara's still life absolutely BOOKS it moments before he gets in the room is proof enough that not only was Barbara terrified o f Clark, but Clark was very well aware of this, to the point where it was ingrained in his memory of her as a person! even if you're convinced that the still lives feel absolutely ZERO emotions what so ever (which is basically just wrong), he still abused real people! he basically just abused women!! the most he has done to a man on screen was be grossly negligent to Bobby, which led to Bobby's death. and then if you factor in the still lives, he literally scalped a sentient replica of his own wife just to pretend to yell at her again. this guy is ACTUALLY FUCKING INSANE!!! and you can't convince me that every still life is an emotionless, feelingless human shaped couch. Barbara's still life literally RUNS from Captain Clark, and Captain Clark bleeds. in all honesty, i think that the emotions, feelings, and biology of the still lives depend on the person who "remembered" them, or essentially willed them into existence. the reason the Bearded Man shows no reaction to getting stabbed in the neck and having his couch-stuffing-guts ripped out is because Clark does not care about the pain of others to the point that when he wills a still life into existence, he does not factor in the pain that a person feels, therefore that still life doesn't feel pain, unless of course there is undeniable proof that they feel pain, like with the still life of Barbara. he knows that she feels fear, because she has shown him fear many times when he abuses her, so that would get factored in when he "remembers" her into existence. for the case of Captain Clark, since it's literalyl just based around himself, obviously it would feel pain. it would be impossible for any person to be ignorant of the pain they feel, and even if they felt it constantly it would still be hard to ignore it. that's why Captain Clark bleeds, and the other still lives dont. i still think Clark is well written. he is very realistic, he is somewhat sympathetic, and he has a very real problem, which is that he creates all of his own problems. i can see how some relate to him with the aspect of causing your own problems, or even the fact that he's lonely and depressed, but you should not defend a character that is very obviously a bad person, regardless of if you relate to them. if you genuinely relate to Clark 100% and feel that he's like your "kinnie" or whatever the fuck those fuckers say, please get help. that request is not coming from a place of malice, it is coming from a place of hope. if you relate to Clark, then it is very important to take the first step and acknowledge the fact that you need to change. i think the thematic reason Clark was destined to die (despite the fact that Captain Clark viewed him as a threat to essentially both of them and began to eat him) was that Clark didn't want to change. he didn't want to get better, he didn't want to heal, or become a better person, and that's why he died.
